  • Biography

Hannele Siipilehto (born 1956) about herself:
    Childhood
I was born in Ekhtari. I lived the first six years of my childhood in Miehikkala Palvaanjärvi. The neighbor was more than a kilometer away, but my playmate was my one year younger sister. I was able to spend my early childhood years surrounded by nature. I remember the strong-smelling marsh wort and its white flowers. Later my family moved to Luumäki in Taavetti when I had to go to school.

    Education
My school years in Taaveti were over when I graduated from school. Photography skills were the only 10 on my certificate.
I graduated from Raitkall School of Horticulture as a gardener, and at Lepaa Garden College I studied to become a garden designer. As a designer, I created compositions, worked with colors and shapes - now I continue this in my work. I worked as a home care nurse for the rest of my working life, changing careers before retiring.

    Love for art
In my childhood home, I followed my mother's art using different techniques. When I was young, I didn't particularly enjoy drawing and painting. This spark came much later. Since then, since 2008, I have been actively drawing and painting.

    Art studies
I completed magic studies, i.e. basic studies in visual arts, in Mikkeli from 2012 to 2017. In addition, I have taken watercolor and graphics courses.
I mostly make art from autumn to spring. I have rented studio spaces from the city of Mikkeli since 2017. Atelier Ilo is really important to me. I paint mainly with acrylics. As an artist, I am very spontaneous, I plan the color scheme in advance. I'm a fan of strong colors. My first teacher, Ella Rautiainen, has described me as confident and energetic is essential in my expression. My other teachers have been Eini Syväniemi and Matti Lepistö. I also like to try different techniques. I have used salt, sand, aronia, coffee and onion in my work. Canvas, wooden board and wallpaper have served as painting platforms.
For me, art means experiences, surprises and the joy of success. The making process is fascinating when you don't know what the end result will be when you start.
