Piia Lehti

  • Biography

    Piia Annukka Lehti-Teder (21 September 1973 Halikko - 6 February 2017) was a Finnish graphic artist.
Lehti spent her childhood in Halikko and studied photography at the Kuusamo Folk High School from 1992-1993. She spent a year in Mexico in her youth, where she became acquainted with graphic art. Lehti studied art in Estonia at the Tallinn Academy of Arts (Eesti Kunstiakadeemia) from 1995-1999, where she also studied with Estonian artist Ramo Teder, to whom she married. Lehti returned to Finland to study at the University of Art and Design in 1999-2001, when she graduated with a Master's degree in art.
After her studies, Lehti and her family settled in the village of Teijo in the town of Salo in Southwest Finland. For Lehti, who loved nature, the vegetable garden was an important place of relaxation, where he observed the growth of plants. He and his family strived to live an ecological lifestyle in their everyday lives. In his art, Lehti combined humans, animals and plants in such a way that their interfaces merged. For example, he could explore the similarities between humans and trees by drawing branches and roots as part of the human internal organs and circulatory system.
Piia Lehti's works have been included in many collective and group exhibitions both at home and abroad. Her solo exhibitions have been held at Salo Art Museum in 1999, Galleria Just in Turku in 2000, Galleria Maria in Helsinki in 2000, Galleria Dueto in Helsinki in 2001 and Kunstihoone gallery in Tallinn, Estonia in 2001. Since then she has held solo exhibitions in Helsinki, Kuopio, Salo, Tampere, Turku, Valkeala and abroad in Tallinn, Viljandi and Reykjavik, Iceland.
Piia Lehti died of cancer at the age of 43.
