  • Biography

Seppo Tamminen (b.1944 Helsinki - 2012 Hämeenlinna) was a prolific Finnish jewellery and visual artist.

Tamminen came to the attention of the art world in the 1960s with his jewellery. His themes were inspired by nature, flowers and curved leaf shapes. After her unique jewellery, the barefoot Helsinki resident moved to Lope and founded the Järventausta Art Centre. His exhibitions came to an end when Tamminen was lured to Riihimäe to renovate his home and studio in Hyttikorttel, a house in a residential area built in the early 20th century for the workers of a glass factory. Life only settled down when he discovered H. G. Paloheimo's Santamäki estate in Launosi, Lope. In addition to her jewellery, Tamminen is known for her sympathetic gouache paintings, which evoke Helsinki as a child or bring glimpses of her own and other people's lives before the viewer.

In addition to private collections, Seppo Tamminen's works are in several museums and public collections, including the Oulu Art Museum, Riihimäki Art Museum, Helsinki Art Museum, the State Art Collection and the Wäinö Aaltonen Museum in Turku.

In the spring of 2012, the esteemed artist was awarded the Finnish Cultural Foundation's Häme Fund Prize for his life's work.
